What type of floor and ceiling are required?

Standard home poles connect to both the ceiling and the floor, using either tension-based systems (i.e., removable poles) or via permanent mounting. Accordingly, you will need both a solid floor and a solid ceiling, or ceiling with solid beams.

For flooring a smooth surface that is neither sticky nor slippery is recommended. Wood floors are often optimal. Carpet over solid flooring can work, but is not ideally suited for turns (e.g., pirouettes), standing maneuvers, and base moves. Concrete or firm tiling is often workable, but be mindful of any cracks or ridges.

A solid ceiling is required, whether made of concrete, metal, or wood. Ceiling beams can also work, but in that case you will likely need to use permanent mounting and should consult your pole manufacturer’s recommendations regarding proper fixture.
